Equipment guide

Which cream chargers fit your whipped-cream dispenser?

A practical guide to matching chargers, cylinders and tanks to your whipped-cream dispenser — how many charges per fill, what each format needs, and how to keep a dispenser working well.

The short version

Chargers, cylinders, tanks and dispensers

  • 8g chargers fit standard whipped-cream dispensers and siphons made for 8g cartridges — the most common format.
  • 9g chargers carry a heavier fill. Most dispensers built for standard chargers take them, but check your dispenser maker's guidance if you're unsure.
  • 615–680g cylinders and 2000g tanks charge a dispenser through a filling connection instead of a single cartridge. The ones we list are matched to standard 0.5L and 1L professional dispensers — message support with your dispenser model and we'll confirm before you order.

How much gas per fill?

The usual guidance for standard dispensers is one 8g charger for a 0.5L dispenser and two for a 1L dispenser. Follow your dispenser maker's instructions — overcharging doesn't make better cream, and an underfilled charge gives runny results.

What dispensers are used for

Beyond whipped cream, chefs and baristas use dispensers for flavoured creams, cold foam for coffee, light mousses and savoury foams (espumas). The gas is the same food-grade N₂O in every case — see what food grade means.

Care

Keeping a dispenser working

  1. Release any remaining pressure fully before opening the dispenser.
  2. Take it apart — head, gasket, nozzle and any decorating tips.
  3. Wash every part in warm soapy water and clean the valve with the brush supplied.
  4. Dry everything before reassembling, and replace the gasket if it's cracked or flattened — a worn gasket is the most common cause of a dispenser that won't hold its charge.

Step-by-step technique is in how to use a cream charger.

Common questions

Chargers and dispensers: FAQ

Do all cream chargers fit all dispensers?

Standard 8g chargers fit dispensers built for standard 8g cartridges, which covers most professional and home dispensers. Larger cylinders and tanks connect differently, so check compatibility first.

How many chargers do I need for a 1L dispenser?

Usually two 8g chargers for a 1L dispenser and one for a 0.5L dispenser — follow the maker's instructions for yours.

Can I use a nitrous oxide tank with my dispenser?

The cylinders and tanks we list are matched to standard 0.5L and 1L professional dispensers. Tell us your dispenser model and we'll confirm before you order.

Why won't my dispenser hold pressure?

Most often a worn or missing gasket, or a head that isn't screwed on straight. Replace the gasket and reseat the head before charging again.
